Menopause Treatment

Fortunately, menopause is neither an illness nor a disease and in fact, it is really nothing worse than a period in the life of a woman when her menstrual periods come to an end. Furthermore, menopause can strike early, or it can occur normally, or it can occur later than normal and when it occurs before a woman has reached the age of forty, it is termed as early menopause, which in fact, is a condition that affects, an estimated, and it is believed fifteen percent of women aged less than forty-five.

Different Ways To Deal With Menopause

Another fortunate thing about menopause is that it is a natural development process and that signals when a woman’s monthly menstrual cycle has come to an end. This change in a woman’s bodily functioning however can affect them in different ways with some becoming emotionally disturbed while others think of it as one more new challenge to be faced and enjoyed.

Still, when the symptoms of menopause start to create disturbance in the minds and the body of a woman, it is then time to think about getting suitable menopause treatment.

Of course, at the very outset you will need to get your condition properly diagnosed after which you will have to start thinking about various available menopause treatment options. Most women are able to guess when they are experiencing menopause though there are also many women who simply are not able to understand that the symptoms they are experiencing are in fact, those of menopause.

Nevertheless, once the condition has been understood and been diagnosed, you then must consult your physician to find a suitable menopause treatment plan and, in fact, a most common treatment option recommended by a vast majority of healthcare professionals is that of hormone replacement therapy or HRT.

Basically, menopause is brought on by a deficiency in the hormone known as estrogen and the best, or even most obvious menopause treatment method with which to rebalance the estrogen level in the body is through use of hormone replacement therapy in which procedures such as estrogen replacement therapy is also a good option worth considering. In any case, which menopause treatment suits you the best will depend to a large degree on the type of menopause symptoms you are experiencing.

However, a cheaper yet very effective menopause treatment method that any woman can easily take advantage of is that of exercising, which is an especially useful means of taking care of hot flashes that is also a very common menopause symptom. Actually, you may also want to choose using alternative medicines as a different menopause treatment option which naturally will lead you to checking out massages as well as acupuncture with which to treat your menopause effectively.

Of course, once you have done your research thoroughly, you will also come across quite a few menopause treatment methods, and it is then up to you to decide which one will be able to provide maximum benefits to you and to your health.

Menopause Remedies

What is menopause? If the menstrual cycle has a beginning called menarche, it also has an end that is called menopause. The etymology of the word menopause comes from the two Greek words meno which means month and pausis which means pause or stop. Thus, physiologically speaking, menopause means the cessation of a woman’s monthly cycle also known as the menstrual cycle. This signifies that the phase when a woman is fertile has already ended.

What Is Menopause: Age Of Onset

The average age of women experiencing the onset of menopause is 55 years old but it can happen during the ages 45 to 55. However, onset may be at age 40 which is considered as early menopause or 60 years which is called as late menopause.

There are also instances when menopause occurs at ages earlier than 40. It can occur from the age of puberty to age 40. This is called premature menopause. This condition can be credited to the ineffective functioning of the ovaries.

What Is Menopause: Causes

There are a couple of reasons why menopause occurs. First is the natural cause which is usually related to aging. This is a natural process that happens to every normal woman. When a woman reaches a certain age, almost all the oocytes in the ovaries experience atresia. This dwindling down in the number of oocytes will cause an increase in the number of FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) and LH (Luteinizing Hormone) which will affect estrogen production and will then eventually lead to menopause.

There are, however, several possibilities that even without reaching the usual menopausal age, a girl or a woman can experience menopause. A very common cause of this is surgery. There are certain surgical procedures like oophorectomy (removal of the ovaries) that can lead to what is called a surgical menopause.

What Is Menopause: Symptoms

When menopause occurs, a lot of gradual changes are happening to the body. With these changes, the body also needs to adapt. Usually this can cause several symptoms to manifest. One of the most common symptoms among women experiencing menopause is the lack of energy. They tend to easily get more tired than usual and have no interest doing any other activities.

Vasomotor symptoms are also experienced by menopausal women. This includes palpitations and hot flashes. Menopause can also affect psychologically and may cause irritability, mood swings, anxiety, lack of concentration and depression.

Summary:

What is menopause? Simply put, it is the cessation of a woman’s menstrual cycle either naturally or surgically.

Although the thought of a man going through menopause seems not only unlikely, but simply impossible, more and more researchers are claiming the male menopause and its symptoms do in fact exist.

Just like in women, men can experience a drop in hormone levels, although this usually happens earlier in men than in women. In fact, it is said that the middle age crisis a man is going through may be due to male menopause symptoms. All in all it’s a good idea to know a little about the possibility of males dealing with menopause symptoms.

You may be a little more familiar with this disease when it’s called by a more popular term; andropause. This term is basically a way of describing the same thing as menopause, but it’s designed to let men keep their own identity and vice versa.

Like women’s estrogen levels decline to create the cycle of menopause, men’s testosterone levels decline to create the same condition. Men also don’t end to naturally lose testosterone, but declining levels usually are brought on by things like depression, stress, lethargy and obesity. Menopause in men isn’t necessarily the same thing as menopause in women, because men never lose fertility as women do.

The Symptoms

Many of the symptoms experienced by women during menopause are the same as what men may experience. However, male menopause symptoms tend to be a lot less dramatic than symptoms shown in women.

Hot flashes are common and tend to happen while being active. The feeling of heat quickly flushes through the body, creating sweat and redness in the face, and an overwhelming feeling of being cooked. These symptoms can be controlled by making sure big, soft ice packs are available as often as possible.

Another common male menopause symptom is night sweats. Waking up in the middle of the night to sweating and being uncomfortable and hot is something else that can be controlled by using ice packs when necessary. Taking naps during the day when possible is another good idea so that lethargy does not become a problem.

Depression and mood swings are symptoms of male menopause that people mistake for as a mid life crisis. In fact, it is a crisis to many people but being able to acknowledge these mood swings and depressed feelings is the first step in controlling these male menopause symptoms. Seeing a therapist and making sure to stay clear of alcohol are good ways of overcoming these symptoms.

Even if you’re a woman who has never had a problem with acne, menopause can change that. Among the multiple other symptoms of menopause which include hot sweats, mood swings and sleeplessness, acne can become a big problem for some women.

If the acne caused from menopause isn’t controlled, it can turn into rash like symptoms and literally cover an entire face. The acne can become inflamed, leaving scars on the face, and I can also remain very red and sore.

The good news is that menopause acne can be controlled so it doesn’t get out of hand. There are a few ways to go about doing this, some ways work better for others. It’s important to only try one treatment at a time so you’ll know what is working and what’s not.

A Clean Face and Pillowcase Every Night

The first and most overlooked method of controlling acne caused by menopause, is to make sure no make up is worn while sleeping. Even though it sounds like it’s an obvious method to try, many women forget to wash their face before sleeping. Going beyond this, a fresh and clean pillow case should be put on your pillow before sleeping every night. This will ensure that no other dirt from previous nights can make their way to your face.

A Lemon and Avocado Scrub

Just a couple of drops of lemon go a long way in this homemade recipe to help control menopause acne; Mash one medium avocado up in a bowl. Add 1-2 drops of lemon juice and use the mixture immediately. Using a soft loofah sponge, gently apply liberal amounts of the face scrub onto your entire face. Apply the mix using a small circular motion, and let it sit for 10 minutes and then rinse your face thoroughly with warm water. Using this recipe at least once a week will help to invigorate your skin, keeping it healthy, smooth and acne controlled.

Steam it Up

Steam helps to open your pores, allowing them to dispel bacteria that cause menopause acne. The best way for this method to do the best job is to boil a large pan of water. Once it’s boiling, hold a towel over your head and bend your face over the pot of boiling water. Breathe slowly and keep your face in the steam for 45 seconds to 1 minute. As soon as you take your face from the steam, wash it with a mild soap and rinse very thoroughly with warm water.

Finally, it is very important that you follow your wash with a cold water rinse for about 10 seconds. This helps to close your pores back up, protecting them from more bacteria entering.

Menopause is the stage in a woman’s life when her menstrual monthly cycle will stop. This also means that the phase of a woman’s fertility is over. During menopause, due to the changes in the body, a woman will experience several symptoms one of which is depression.

What Is Depression

Depression is caused by biological factors. Serotonin and other hormones in the brain regulate your behavior and mood. The level of hormones can fluctuate and can drop which causes changes in your mood and leads to depression.

A person suffering from depression will have intense feelings of hopelessness and sadness. More often than not depression can have disastrous effects on a person as well as the people around them.

Explaining Menopause And Depression

Menopause and depression have, through time, been always observed together in women. In fact, women are more prone to depression in midlife than men simply because midlife is the onset age of menopause for women. Symptoms include decreased interest in doing activities, depressive mood, change in sleeping pattern, loss of energy, feeling of hopelessness and worthlessness, irritability and extreme restlessness.

Even for those women who have not experienced depression or have no history of the disorder can be seen to have episodes of depression. This is highly attributed to the relationship between menopause and depression.

When menopause and depression go hand in hand, it is very important to let the woman know and feel that nothing is wrong with her. She needs to realize that she is feeling right now, especially the depressive moods, is just the effect of the relationship between menopause and depression.

Coping With Menopause And Depression

Unable to cope with depression, a woman may end up feeling very depressed to a point where she tends to think about killing herself. The melancholic feelings and feelings of hopelessness could take their toll and may cause devastating damage. To avoid such things from happening, a woman should learn how to cope with the depression brought about by menopause. First see a doctor about both menopausal symptoms as well as the depressive episodes.

One way of coping with depression is to have a support group. This can be your immediate family or your set of friends, although a support group of people with the same problem can be even more helpful. Through them, you could share all your concerns and worries, your thoughts and ideas.

Another thing you can do is to keep yourself busy. You may opt to do different activities during your free time. Through this you will have less time to think about depressive thoughts and other ideas that may cause depression. It would also be good to have somebody you can do the activities with.
